Goes second time out for
trainer Jimmy Jerkens, who has strong long term stats for maiden second-time
starters. This horse doesn’t actually need to much improvement to win after
coming in second in career debut last time out, just missing by a nose while
ahead of next-out maiden winner Limonite. Has a fast workout since last race
indicating he’s cranked up for this and ready to roll. All systems go.

#8 Patternrecognition has the edge in this year’s running of
the Cigar Mile after beating some of this same competition last time out in the
Kelso at Belmont with a fast speed figure. Now 2-for-2 in one-turn miles and
also 2-for-2 here at Aqueduct in his career, so you know he likes the distance
and surface. Speedy horse will try to go all the way, but has a tactical
advantage because he doesn’t need the lead to win.
Play in exacta box with #5 Copper Town, who is the wild card
in this field for trainer Todd Pletcher, who recently brought this horse back
from a year layoff successfully with a dominant optional claiming win with a
high speed figure. Once earned a 106 Beyer speed figure in the Daily Racing
Form and once upon a time beat Patternrecognition when doing so. Will he move
forward or take a step back in this second start back since the return from the
sidelines? We’ll see, but he certainly belongs in the exacta boxes.
