race last time out at Delta Downs, and the last 2 speed figures are far
superior to the other horses in this race. The only question is the continued
stretchout in distance today to 1 1/16 miles, but based on talent this horse in
unrivaled in this field.
Play in exacta box with #9 Crocodile Jacques, who is a
sneaky longshot play in this field, at least for the exacta boxes, at 12-1 odds
on the morning line. Owns two races in his past performances that are far
better than the rest, and those two standout efforts were both when stretched
out to two-turn races here on this track at Fair Grounds, including a
seven-length maiden win and then a blow-out wire-to-wire victory two races ago.
Clearly the exacta horse and possible upsetter in this field.
Race 13 – Louisiana Derby
#10 Spinoff
Was third in the Saratoga Special as a 2yo and then returned
from a long layoff as a clearly improved 3yo with a dominating 11-length route
win at Tampa. Quickly placed on the Kentucky Derby trail based on that last win
by trainer Todd Pletcher, and figures to improve even more here today in the
second race back off the long layoff with the prep race under his belt. Johnny
Velazquez is here to ride at 8-1 odds on the morning line. Needs Kentucku Derby
points. All systems “go.”.
