SPOT PLAYS
SARATOGA
Race 6
#5 Flush
Returned from a 2 ½-month layoff
last time out and switched to the turf for the first time for trainer Kiaran
McLaughlin and sprang to life with a good second-place finish at Belmont after
fighting for the early lead on less-than-firm turf. Returns at the same level
second off the layoff, and there’s none in here the likes of the one that beat
her last time.
Race 8
#9 Stellar Agent
Plus play exacta box w/#8 Catch a Bid
#9 Stellar
Agent ran a solid turf sprint effort last time out in a prep race for this
stretchout attempt at 1 1/16 miles. Clearly she’s at her best going long and
was good enough to be third in last fall’s G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies
Turf. Will be very difficult to beat in this kind of a spot with a prep under
her belt.
Play in
exacta box with #8 Catch a Bid, who exits a big career debut victory for
trainer Chad Brown, blowing away maidens and earning a solid speed figure that
stacks up well against these in the first outing against winners. Will need to
find a way to deal with the likes of Stellar Agent, but it’s hard to put
anything past trainer Chad Brown when his horses show up at the Spa looking
good.
