last October when mid-pack in a nine-horse race, Now looms a grow-up play in
this 3yo debut for trainer Michael Matz, who has won with 6 of his last 17
starters returning from more than a six-month layoff for a big 35% win percentage
and a big positive ROI. First-time Lasix adds to the appeal. Looms a massive
overlay at 10-1 odds on the morning line.
Play in exacta box with #6 Ima Pharoah, who is the
morning-line favorite at 2-1 coming off of 3 straight runner-up finishes to
begin his career. Clearly has the ability to beat this field, but he seems to
settle for second and is a two-time beaten favorite. Use him in the exacta
boxes with the #4 who will add value to the ticket with the favorite.
Race 7
#2 Mother Mother
Bob Baffert
ships in for the Grade 3 Vanity Stakes, and catches a break because this race
drew only a seven-horse field and lacks another standout. Since Come Dancing
appears to be off form and Chalon may need this race coming off a long layoff.
For Mother Mother, that spells good news at this 6 1/2F distance that is
perfect for her running style. Still trying to find her best stride so far
early this season, but Baffert wouldn’t be bringing have brought her to NY is
she wasn’t ready. Ran some efforts in December, January, February that would
cream these. Tough based on best efforts.
