#3 Fed Funds
Plus play exacta box w/ #5 Sienna Magic
#3 Fed Funds didn’t handle a
route distance last time and now takes a beneficial cutback to 6F after scoring
two career victories at 6 1/2F so far. Wasn’t up to snuff at the allowance
level, but now takes the big dropdown in class versus non-winners of 3
claimers, and looks very tough at this level against today’s field.
Play in
exacta box with #5 Sienna Magic, who is a big question mark here today
returning from a year+ layoff. However, on the plus side he is trained by
Charlton Baker, the best long layoff specialist trainer on this circuit with
the possible exception of Chad Brown. Baker will have him ready off the layoff,
and that makes this horse dangerous because when he was last seen last year, he
was a consistent performer who landed in the exacta five times in a row with
speed figures that stack-up very well against today’s competition.
Race 4
#6 Crystalle
One of the
top female turf horses in NY for her 2yo campaign with a win in the PG Johnson
at Saratoga and a close second in the Miss Grillo (G2) right here at Belmont
before heading to the Breeders’ Cup. Making her way back from a long stint on
the sidelines now, and somehow she’s still eligible for a n1x allowance like
today’s race. Irad Ortiz jumps at the mount. She should be too good for these,
and her morning line odds are a big bargain at 9-2.
