last time out and showed a dramatic positive turnaround for trainer Christophe
Clement to post the maiden victory, and then that win looked even better when
the fourth-place finisher in this race, Pier Forty, came back to graduate in
his next outing. Now for some reason Pier Forty is the morning line favorite in
this race while this horse is a value-priced 7-2 odds on the morning line.
Ready to improve further today in the second start off the layoff.

#2 Square Shooter has mainly been
a turf sprinter, but two races ago he carried that ability over to the main
track at Saratoga when they tried the dirt and ran a very good second-place
effort. This horse hasn’t even been that good on the grass recently, so you can’t
blame the new connections for switching this horse back to the main track off
the claim. The speed figure of that Spa dirt sprint stacks up favorably versus
the rest of this field, and if it rains he can also handle the mud.
Play in
exacta box with #7 Shamrocked, has been knocking on the door recently with a
pair of in-the-money finishes at higher claiming levels in October races at
Belmont. All of the speed figures for this trainer since getting claimed four
races ago have been very good, and he’s cycling now to a win or at least a spot
in the exactas today.
