#2 Caramel Swirl ran a good
career debut second-place finish for Bill Mott, who usually doesn’t crank up
his first starters, especially on the dirt. Moved up early to press the pace in
a dirty-work trip chasing the front-running 4-5 favorite, and held on to finish
11 lengths clear of the rest of the field in second in an effort that looks
even better now that the winner of that race came back to win again in her next
race.

and now figures to improve nicely in second lifetime start for trainer Tony
Dutrow, who doesn’t win with a lot of first starters but really cranks up his

value to the exactas along with the likely-to-win favorite.

Turned into
one of the best turf sprinters on the New York circuit in the second half of
the year, rattling off three straight wins at Saratoga and then Belmont
including a stakes win last time out. Has no visible chinks in the armor as a
horse that likes both firm and yielding turf, and who can close from off the
pace or go wire-to-wire. Beat better than these last time. Likely to repeat
once again.
