No dice last
time when stretched out to a route distance, but now looms a large overlay in
the odds at 15-1 on the morning line with this cutback to a sprint at 6F based
on the three races in the past performances prior to the last outing, which
were all good efforts in sprint races including the maiden win at Fair Grounds
and a couple in the money finishes at Hawthorne. Sprint speed figures should
beat this field if able to repeat better form than last time. Worth a shot at a
nice price.

#1 Carpe Victoriam is a
California invader for trainer John Sadler, who is off to a slow start at this
meet but had big success at Oaklawn last year and should be ready to heat up.
This horse shipped to Oaklawn last season and won that only prior effort on
this track in a sharp effort against better horses. Seems to be in good form
based on the recent SoCal outings, and can beat this field with one of his
typical dirt sprint efforts.
Play in
exacta box with #3 Splash For Gold, who goes out first off the claim by trainer
Ingrid Mason, who is successful at Oaklawn year after year. This horse comes
from Hawthorne where the most recent races were in route races, but this
cutback into a sprint should help this horse who had reeled off two wins in a
row when last seen in sprints at or near today’s distance. Winner of 5 of his
last 7 dirt sprint outings looms a live overlay at 8-1 odds on the morning line.
