#4 Maxfield will be making his
4-year-old debut for trainer Brendan Walsh with Florent Geroux aboard. Maxfield has begun his career 4-for-4
including stakes wins in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at age 2, the Matt Winn
(G3) last May, and then in the Fair Grounds’ Tenacious Stakes in his comeback
race last time out in his return from a seven-month layoff. Maxfield has raced
only twice since October of 2019, but nevertheless always seems to show up to
the races with big efforts. He beat many of these same horses here in the
Tenacious, and will benefit from that prep and be even tougher this time
around.
Play in
exacta box with #1 Enforceable, who will have a legitimate chance to knock-off
the favorite if Maxfield does not bring his best game. Exits an eight-length
Fair Grounds win last time out with a 103 Beyer speed figure, and has a past
history of success at this track, with a win in last year’s Lecomte (G3) Stakes
en route to a second-place finish in a division of last year’s Risen Star (G2).
Seems to be back in best form and dangerous, at least for the exactas.

Goes out for
trainer Brad Cox with regular rider Geroux aboard and can turn the tables from
his narrow loss to a pair of these same horses last time out in the Lecomte
(G3) at this track and distance. The difference-maker today might be the pace,
which should be faster than the glacial pace of the Lecomte that aided the
front runners. Today, the leaders should not be able to get away with murder
again up front.
