Race 10 – Madison Stakes
#5 Kimari
Plus exacta box with #7 Fair Maiden
#5 Kimari never runs a bad race and has never been as far
as 7F but runs well late and appears to be a horse that Will handle the extra
distance for trainer Wesley Ward. Seems to concéntrate on the turf, but quietly
has racked-up a 3-for-3 record caree ron the dirt, including the 15-length Maiden
win here at Keeneland and two stakes wins at Oaklawn with the most victory
coming last time out in first race off a layoff. Handles any footing and gets
Rosario aboard.
Play in exacta box with #7 Fair Maiden, who adds value to
the exacta boxes at 8-1 odds on the morning line. Finally had her career
breakout performance back in December with a Grade 1 win at Santa Anita in the
La Brea at this 7F distance. Can rebound from a sub-par performance last time
out at a price today.
Race 11 – Blue Grass Stakes
#4 Essential Quality
The heavy chalk is undoubtedly the horse to beat today in
a srtange Blue Grass stakes field that has absolutely no pace. The leading contender
on the road to the Kentucky Derby, Essential Quality was the 2yo champion based
on his victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Loves Keeneland, his favorite
track, with the BC victory coming here, as well as his win in last year’s Grade
1 Breeders’ Futuity. Returned from a layoff last time out looking good in the
3yo debut when winning the Southwest Stakes (G3) for trainer Brad Cox at
Oaklawn to remain undefeated in his career at 4-for-4. Isn’t really a speed horse, but can certainly
take advantage of the lack of speed entered in this race by showing tactical
speed, just as he did the day he won the Breeders’ Futurity on this same track
last year.
