#7 Regal Glory lost to
ultra toughies last time out in the Grade 1 Just a Game, but finished a
respectable fourth and had won the race before then in a good-looking return
race off the seasonal layoff. Has prep races under her belt unlike the favorite,
which gives her the advantage. Likes this turf course based on the fact she
swept the Lake George (G3) and the Lake Placid (G2) here two seasons ago. Looks
good for Chad Brown.
Play in exacta box with #3 Viadera,
who is the other Chad Brown horse in the race and the likely favorite
based on her three straight stakes wins last year, culminating in the Grade 1
Matriarch in November at Del Mar. Returns from the long layoff in this spot,
and appears to have only her stable-mate to beat.
Race 8
#7 Wicked Halo
Won her career
debut two races ago for Asmussen, and even though the race was at Lone Star, it
appears to be the real deal since this horse earned a fast speed figure and the
race turned out to be a key race, with both the second- and third-place horses
in that field coming back to win their next races. This horse tried the $150k
Deburante last time out at Churchill Downs at 6F, and actually ran a :21 first
quarter mile up front to get the lead en route to a third-place finish. Won’t
need to go close to :21 to get the lead here, and should be able to handle the 6
1/2F on a more realistic pace for a barn having a strong meet.
