Smile Happy is one of the horses to beat on the road to the Kentucky
Derby with 2 wins and a second in three career outings so far, including a win
in last fall’s Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill where he beat Tampa Bay Derby
winner Classic Causeway and Florida Derby winner White Abarrio in the same
race. Finished second in 3yo debut prep race in the Risen Star Stakes (G2)
behind current Kentucky Derby future book favorite, Louisiana Derby winner
Epicenter. No horse in training was flattered as much as this horse by the last
couple weekend’s results, and figures to improve today in his second race off
the layoff.
Play in exacta box with #1 Commandperformance, who is
still a maiden but has three second-place finishes to his credit for Todd
Pletcher including a second behind Jack Christopher in last fall’s Champagne
Stakes (G1). The only other race so far was a respectable fourth in the Breeders’
Cup Juvenile. Deserves the benefit of the doubt in the exactas for these top
connections including jockey Irad Ortiz aboard.
