HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

TAMPA BAY DOWNS

CALENDS: Backclassy speedster showed good speed last out for a half mile through some very quick fractions but tired to finish last. Must be given another shot with $5k claimers.

ENGIN FIZZ: Three year old filly by Slew Gin Fizz made a good middle move to get up to the heavily favored leader and stayed on well for third, with further improvement she can get her diploma next out.

HARD ROCKIN ROBYN: Easily outran his 73-1 odds last out when dropping from maiden special weights into maiden claimers; will be lower next out but should get the job done with similar.

LUCKY CUTIE: Showed more speed last out when stretched out from six to seven furlongs and won the battle with the other pacesetter but had to settle for third, can be tough if she can clear going seven furlongs next out with similar.

LUCKY VALID: Needed the drop in class last out and ran on very well for the place spot after chasing the wire to wire winner throughout, will be tough with $12.5k claimers.

OMIT THE DIVIDEND: Moved from the turf to the dirt last out and then stretched out in distance, showed good speed chasing the leader but tired late, can be sitting on a big win at a large mutuel.

4STARSPECIAL: MAYBE YES MAYBE NO: Raced evenly last out when finishing fifth after racing up close to the pace in an off the turf event, respect this one moving back to the lawn.

LONGSHOT: IM A CRUISER: Huge effort at 106-1 last out when finishing third after getting away in the fifth spot early on, three year old filly can pop at a big price with maiden claimers.

PENN NATIONAL

BOGART: Veteran gelding may have needed the race last out when finishing third well behind the runaway winner and should be much tighter next out.

CRYSTALLIZATION: Showed good early speed most recently but backed up to fourth when it counted, the wet track couldn’t have helped as that ran his record to 0 for12 in the slop.

MARIATOM: 12YO gelding still has something left in the tank closing for third behind moderate fractions, don’t leave this one out of your exotics.

MONS MEG: Chased the pace from the start in third and stayed on for the show spot, more than 10 lengths clear of the fourth place finisher, is a good fit with NW2L claimers.

RUMBALAYA: Was coming off a December layoff and took a drop in class last out, ran to his solid work tab checking in third after chasing the pace early, follow.

WYE RIVER RUGRAT: Was more aggressive last out, laying in third early behind two gapped out pacesetters, made a strong move to take the lead but had to settle for second late, fits with $3.5k claimers.

4STARSPECIAL: SAND SLOUGH: Hard hitting gelding has now finished in the money 25 times from 40 starts and that includes his hard luck second last out as he ran a winning race. Is versatile so must be respected with a similar group.

LONGSHOT: SOAP BOX: Was off since November but the time off did him good as he ran on for a solid third at 31-1 behind the odds-on winner, is a must use in all exotics, tab.
