HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
WOODBINE
ALEXIA: Showed much improved speed last out leading from the start until deep stretch to finish second at 36-1, can lead right back with NW2L claimers.
MICKEY’S HOPE: Four year gelding was last seen being eased back in October but returned with blinkers off and some new found speed en route to a solid second. Follow with NW2L claimers right back.
NIKEY MISSILE: Ran on well for third last out at 28-1 when going six furlongs last out and he should be respected right back with a little more distance.
ONE QUIET CAT: Returned from a December layoff with lasix added for the first time and it helped as she checked in third, just a neck off the place spot, follow right back off the effort.
PASSERINE: Ran an even fourth last out chasing the pace from the rail going 5/8th’s of a mile. Needed that race and should move forward with that race under her belt.
SHIPMAN: Ran for a second time in one week since December, showed speed but tired in the drive for fifth. Should be set for best in his third start of the form cycle.
4STARSPECIAL: POCKET KINGS: Raced evenly in his first start since December and only his second career start but look for improvement next out with that raced under his belt, tab.
LONGSHOT: PANIEMONIAM: Has not won a race since last August but has been right there in most of her races. Her most recent fifth place finish at 25-1 was solid and she must be respected with $25k claimers.
PIMLICO
ART FAN: Have long liked this mare, and she should be set for a strong spring off her fourth-place return from break most recently; had trained well.
DERBY DAY RALLY: Waited wide then rallied well to win latest in going-away fashion; right back.
DIAMOND WILDCAT: Shot clear early and then weakened to finish second as the beaten favorite in his latest; makes speed count this spring at Laurel.
DOCTOR JENKINS: Should improve upon fourth-place finish most recently – his first attempt with winners; can stay in touch early, and that is a plus.
HARVICK: Chased wide then rallied between to pick up a nice second behind clear winner in latest; his turn next time.
JANUARY RAIN: Rallied from wide spot to finish third in latest, and now figures set for best stuff in upcoming third start of current form cycle; go to window.
MEMORY OF MITCH: Chased and weakened, but initial experience with winners should only help matters going forward; 3YO filly worth watching.
MIKE’S GREENFIELDS: Made it two straight wins in latest, and this doesn’t seem like the time to jump from bandwagon; keeps on rolling.
STAR PHENOM: Blasted clear early and faded late when tried on turf for the first time in latest; experience helps matters, and regardless of where she returns.
WINGED SUMAC: Raced between rivals and then wide when he rallied for third in latest; proves useful claim for new trainer Shuman.
4STARSPECIAL:JACKPOT RUN: Tried turf for the first time off claim by sharp Schoenthal barn and went well for close fourth; only gets better from here.
LONGSHOT: NEW MEADOWS: Settled way back early and rallied to finish a nice fifth in latest under the circumstances; set for breakout effort now.
