HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

CALDER

FIVE TOWNS: Good debut from this juvenile to be fourth after a troubled trip. Was bumped at the start and was steadied on the turn for home; try again.

FRISKY FLYER: Got little respect off his Tampa maiden win, but did well in his first attempt against winners to place third at 29-1. He belongs.

LORD ABOUNDING: Clearly prefers the Miami oval over Gulfstream and proved it again with a 6 1/2-length wire-to-wire tally on opening day. Armed and dangerous.

NO HEAR SAY: The time off has appeared to do her well. Outran 17-1 odds in seasonal debut while third in the Snurb S.; hearing good things.

SCARLET GOLD: Showed some late interest at a huge price while trying grass for the first time at Gulfstream Apr. 20. Eddie Plesa, Jr. calls the shots.

SEND ME AN ANGEL: Was up the track in her first start off the shelf, but has turned it around in her last two, finishing fourth Mar. 29 and third Apr. 25. Ready to clear her first-level allowance condition.

SHEILA’S COOK’N: Really woke up in her first attempt at Calder, finishing second at blockbuster odds. Must respect off that effort.

YOU BRONZE CAT: Two decent efforts from him since returning from the bench. Most recently a respectable fourth on the lawn, but is probably better on the dirt; take note.

4STARSPECIAL: JET PROPULSION: Speedster has really taken to the sod and is extremely hard to gun down with a clear lead. Can’t knock off 15-1 allowance tally.

LONGSHOT: FLAMINGO ISLAND: Rallied from ninth to place fifth in his debut at 39-1. Should move forward with that experience under his belt.

LONE STAR

BABY JAKE: Settled for a close fifth when in some traffic most recently, and has yet to run a poor race; claimed by trainer Bronstad for $25K and proves worthwhile.

COYOTEHIGHESTCALL: Rallied for second in latest, but couldn’t prove match for runaway winner; brings back checks with off-the-pace rallies.

GAUCHO GIRL: Battled wide and with pace throughout latest, then survived late bump to win by a head in gritty effort; makes it three straight next time.

HOLLAND POLLAND: Chased throughout and went well for a useful third in her first attempt since early-February; moves up in a hurry.

ONE SPECIAL JUDGE: Battled on pace throughout his latest and stayed on gamely to finish second, beaten just a nose; gritty veteran’s turn next time.

POWER SURGE: Rallied from wide turn spot to pick up second in what should prove a very useful 4 ½-furlong racing debut; pedigree hints at turf and/or distance prowess.

ROSA CIELO: Rallied for third in her latest and was claimed for $10K by winning Asmussen barn; proves her worth.

SUPERIOR CHARLIE: Should benefit from latest third-place finish in course return; brings early speed and almost always factors in outcome.

4STARSPECIAL: DWIGHT POLITE: Chased early, dropped back, then came on a touch again late to finish a useful sixth in turf try; primed for return to winning ways.

LONGSHOT: SPECIAL AGENT JOE: Broke a beat slow then middle-moved strongly to contend and then stayed on in nice order to finish third under five-pound "bug"; next time.
