HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

PHILADELPHIA

ALARMING FANTASY: Stumbled at the start from the rail post in first race back from a three-month layoff and finished a distant third as a result. Can improve.

BARDSTALE: Outran 40-1 odds by closing late for second in a 5 1/2-furlong sprint. Prepped and ready now.

CEDAR: Bobbled at the start and then rushed up toward the lead and came up short as a result of a 3 1/2-month layoff. Ready to roll with a clean break.

CRIMINAL INTENT: Got caught in a three-length-gap speed duel and held on well after dispatching his early challenger. Respect.

FATHOM DRIVE: Got caught in a three-length-gap speed duel and settled for third as the favorite. Can make amends.

JET AWAY JANE: Got hooked in a three-way, six-length-gap speed duel and held on for third while easily ahead of her early challengers. Can rebound.

KEEPN LINE: Closed for third behind a speedy first starter and a 2-5 favorite while 12 lengths clear of the rest of the field. Don’t overlook.

LADY LANKFORD: Showed good speed in return from a four-month layoff, but never got a breather up front and settled for third. Try again.

SON OF A CLOSER: Held on gamely after getting caught in a three-way-speed duel in a race that set up for closers. Deserves another look.

4STARSPECIAL: WILA WEST: Broke slowly and could do no more than chase the pace horses after losing best chance at the start. Worth another shot.

LONGSHOT: EVENING MEADOW: Stumbled badly and lost all chance at the start in return from a five-month layoff, but still lost by only 3 lengths at 10-1 odds. Can win second off the layoff.

LONE STAR

BEHRENITALL: Chased pace, battled, and stayed on for third in improved effort most recently; stay on board with filly in present form.

COURTLY JAZZ: Battled early and tired to fifth most recently; gelding has some class to draw upon and can muster best in upcoming third start of form cycle.

CRIB KICKER: Middle moved to contention and settled for fair fourth in useful career debut, in which she also picked up valuable seasoning ("bumped 7/16"); juvenile to follow.

HIGH PIONEER: Can’t knock mare who typically brings back a check and has her share of wins on her resume; a must-use in gimmicks.

MOVING APPEAL: Raced with the pace throughout and simply came up second best when trying both turf and route for the first time in latest; improving.

SECRET VOW: Raced wide throughout latest turf effort – a killer – and settled for sixth; race with winners helps gelding move up.

T V POKER: Chased and faded off very tough trip most recently; gets another chance to show speed and overall ability with lower-end claiming types in sprint.

TRAXSTAR: Hit the gate at the start and still rallied from well back to post maiden tally over nine foes in latest; right back with winners in present form.

4STARSPECIAL: SOUTHERN AFLEET: Showed the way early and weakened in the lane to settle for a game third most recently; colt proved he can step with allowance company.

LONGSHOT: SUPERIOR CHARLIE: Chased and weakened to third most recently; clear pace and/or softer early tempo help the cause.
