HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

ELLIS PARK-TURFWAY PARK

ANGEL FLYING: Posted elusive maiden win in game fashion most recently; daughter of Saint Ballado is ready to take the next step now, so patience will pay.

BOOGIE WOOGIE MAN: Chased from wide spot and faded to fifth in useful start when returned from early-July absence; sharper for experience going forward.

COOK’S SPECIAL: Showed good early speed but faded to fourth when it counted in the stretch most recently; can handle similar NW3L spot next time.

COWBOY HARDWARE: Chased the pace and weakened when he tried to stretch his speed one mile most recently; previously in sharp form, he bounces back quick.

MISPARKLE TOO: Rallied for a close third in an improved effort when moved to the turf for her latest; usually lands a piece of the purse.

MISS AMBER: Showed good early speed from a wide spot before tiring to third in her latest; gets back to winning ways on clear early shake.

O’HENRY’S PEAK: Rallied from wide spot to be along for game neck victory after tough stretch drive in latest; gelding comes right back for another in current form.

PRINCE PRADO: Went in even fashion for fourth after rocky gate getaway most recently; primed for better stuff in upcoming third start of current form cycle.

TOUCH OF FIRE: Should only improve upon second-place finish when beaten a neck in her first start since late-June; well-bred daughter of Thunder Gulch is one to follow.

4STARSPECIAL: ROVIC’S WEALTH: Battled throughout and stayed on gamely to finish a close third in demanding turf debut at route of ground; diploma run awaits.

LONGSHOT: INFUSED: Gave a needed improved effort when third on switch to grass most recently, showing better early speed and staying power; next time.

FAIRPLEX

ARTAXMAN: Got KO’d while dueling in a fast and pressured pace in a race where all front-runners tired. Set up for a good run next time out, follow.

DEW DROP: Got off to a slow start in a race ruled by a runaway wire-to-wire winner. Closed well for third despite traffic, and can win next time with a clean trip.

GENERAL CELMAR: Finished sixth but still outran 30-1 odds to lose by only three lengths in return from a year+ layoff. Perfect fit at Fpx.

GO CARDINAL GAL: Broke slowly and then rushed up and tired as a result in well-bet career debut. Likely Fpx graduate with a clean start.

HOT WIRED: Was either in tight traffic or blocked behind horses for nearly the whole stretch. Deserves another look despite the sixth-place finish.

IN HIGH FORM: Got hooked and cooked in a three-length-gap speed duel going :22 flat in a mile race. Can rebound at Fairplex off the claim by low-profile barn.

JACK THE DUFFER: Remained a threat until deep stretch despite a rough trip chasing the pace. Worth another shot.

MY DANCEN DIVA: Won despite a troubled trip on 8/21. Claimed by Mullins and should repeat despite likely rise in class.

PERIPATETIC: Outran 36-1 odds for fourth, just a nose out of third, in return from a 10-month layoff. Prepped and ready for next start.

PIECES OF PARADISE: Pretty much had no chance after getting bumped at the start and steadied and shuffled back on the first turn. Better luck next time.

SOUTH AFRICAN BABY: Broke poorly at the rear of a 10-horse field, and then got blocked behind horses in the stretch when attempting the winning rally. Catch her next time.

STRIKING COBRA: Got hooked in a three-way battle for the lead in :21.2 opening quarter. Finished far ahead of her pace challengers.

SUBWAY SING: Finished fifth when her late rally at 5 furlongs on turf came up short, but was interfered with when caught in traffic in the stretch. Deserves another look.

TORIKINS: Broke poorly and then rushed up from the rail and still managed to outrun 16-1 odds for third. Don’t overlook.

4STARSPECIAL: AN ANNIKA MOMENT: Got hooked on the lead and never got a breather up front in close fourth-place finish. Her early zip fits in Fairplex routes.

LONGSHOT: MARQUIS FORM: Faded to sixth after battling for the lead on a fast pace in a race that set up for closers and stalkers. Try again.
