HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
PHILADELPHIA PARK
FREDDY THE CAP: Prepped and ready now following well-beaten return from a four-month layoff. Deserves another rlook.
GO BIG RED: Suffolk invader showed good speed and outran 31-1 odds for third, just missing the win by a head and a nose. Don’t overlook again in second off the three-month layoff.
JUMPIN JACQUELINE: Showed eary speed, back off a bet when four wide on the turn and then tried to come again in the stretch in a z-pattern effort on 1/13. Try again.
ROMERO: Rushed up into a contested pace and outlasted the early speed horses including the 7-5 favorite. Sneaky contender vs. cheapies.
SAFEBREAKER: Got hooked in a three-way battle for the lead and settled for third behind two stalkers who had perfect trips. Can get oer the hump next time.
STOWED AWAY: Barclay Tagg runner was given a race in a six furlong career debut. Should show quick improvemet in second start with an expected stretchout and/or switch to turf down south.
SYKES ALIVE: Broke slowest in a 12-horse field to lose all chance in a 51/2-furlong race. Still managed to outrun 41-1 odds for fourth and cannot be discounted next time.
UNIGOLD: Prepped and ready now after a return race off an eight-month layoff. Too early to give up on him.
WEST COAST FLYER: Made a big middle move into second behind a runaway leader before tiring late in return from a six-month layoff. Should hold on better in second off the layoff.
BEST BET: ALILFASTER: Got hooked in a two-length-gap speed duel nad had to settle for third behind a pair of perfect-trip stalkers. Worth another shot.
LONGSHOT: CUTE BOOTS: Well-bet first starter lost all chance at the start when she missed the break to begin last in an 11-horse field. Can improve with an improved break at an improved price.
TAMPA BAY
GINNY FIZZ: Battled head to head for the lead through the opening half, took over into the stretch but tired late to finish third, follow.
SETTLERS BEACH: Pressed the pace right from the start last out; took over soon after the quarter mile and then tired in the drive; should be tighter next out.
SHARP: Chased the fast pace last out in a turf sprint and checked in a good third, is sharp right now on any surface.
SWALLOW THAT PRIDE: Ran well in her career debut which came on the turf with maiden claimers when she checked in fourth at 31-1; should improve off that effort.
WE HAVE A PROBLEM: Had a problem last out when trying to clear for the lead and it hurt him in the long run; price play right back with optional claimers.
BEST BET: PASSED OVER: Continued his winning ways with a solid late close to score by almost two lengths last out with $6.25k claimers, must respect this one even with a slight bump in class.
LONGSHOT: CHET: Wasn’t far off a quick early pace most recently and hung on very well to finish a distant second to the favorite at 34-1; respect with similar at a price.
