HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

WOODBINE

CALINA: Made it two straight wins when back from break most recently; lightly raced 4YO filly can continue to climb the class ladder.

CARRINGTON: Chased the pace and weakened a touch in lane to finish third in his first start since mid-January; 6YO gelding likely needed the leg-stretcher.

JADE’S A PLEASURE: Finished a fairly even fifth as beaten favorite in her return from break most recently; lightly raced 4YO filly still brings some upside.

MOON KING: Battled on pace and stayed on in stubborn fashion when a narrowly beaten fourth in his latest; can step up off his first start since last-December.

OROZCO: Dueled and fell short in the stretch when third as beaten favorite in his latest; proven winner quickly makes amends off claim by trainer Fairlie.

PUT UPON: Dueled throughout and finished second in crowd of 11 in his latest start; primed for upcoming third start of current form cycle off $25K-claim by Randall.

4*SPECIAL: VINTAGE PORT GAL: Steadied at the break, raced wide, and rallied for fifth in useful career debut; leaves maiden ranks next time.

LONGSHOT: THOR’S HAMMER: Battled on pace and weakened to third in course return most recently; initial try with winners proves a big boost going forward.

KEENELAND

AL JOHNSTAN: Chased from wide spot and gave way badly in crowded field most recently, but prior form is strong; taken to bounce back off claim by Kenneally (27% this year).

AMERICAN COUNTY: Overcame slow start to move well to lead from wide spot and stayed on for close third in very nice 4 ½-furlong debut; all systems go next time.

BOONESBORO ROAD: Chased early, battled between foes, and stayed on fairly well until late when fourth in latest; can do more.

CHESTERTOWN SLEW: Went in acceptable fashion for fifth in incredibly tough allowance group (don’t expect 53-1 price on this guy much) most recently; stay on board.

CODEWORD: Raced wide and never really got going in latest, but graded stakes experience off October-layoff in his first U.S. start should have him primed to take advantage of lesser.

GOLD ATTRACTION: Rallied form well back and wide to pick up third as the beaten favorite in his most recent start; proves useful $30K-claim for trainer Lake.

KIN TO THE WIND: Raced very well for third in group of 12 when outside in her first try since last-July; lightly raced 4YO filly is daughter of Giant’s Causeway with potential.

OUT OF GWEDDA: Has been slow to find best stride in pair of starts since back from brief freshening; don’t forget about potential this colt showed as juvenile last year.

TIGANELLO: Showed more early interest than usual – perhaps simply a function of slow start and need to get involved – and weakened to fifth as beaten favorite; right back for Pletcher.

4*SPECIAL: GO BUCKY GO: Raced a bit rank on pace – perhaps a bit fresh off January-layoff – and weakened to third in lane as a result; quickly gets back on best game next time.

LONGSHOT: KENTUCKY WARRIOR: Chased and weakened when returned to turf for his most recent start; can do better than eighth-place finish in his upcoming third start of current form cycle.
