Curlin closes as favorite in Final Derby Future Wager

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Following his record setting victory in Saturday's Arkansas Derby, Curlin emerged as the 7-2 favorite when betting closed in the third and final Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Curlin's 10 1/2 length win propelled him past Eclipse Award winner Street Sense and Nobiz Like Shobiz.

Street Sense, second in the Blue Grass Stakes by a nose, was 6-1 and Wood Memorial champ Nobiz Like Shobiz was 10-1. Blue Grass winner Dominican finished at 17-1 after opening the pool on Thursday at 50-1.

Louisiana Derby winner Circular Quay was third at 9-1 when wagering ended Sunday night. Illinois Derby winner Cowtown Cat finished at 20-1 after being 15-1 in the morning line.

Highly regarded Great Hunter opened at 10-1, but following his tough race in the Blue Grass Stakes he closed at 15-1. Lane's End Stakes champ Hard Spun finished at 13-1 and Florida Derby winner Scat Daddy ended at 11-1.

Santa Anita Derby winner Tiago closed at 14-1 down slightly from the 15-1 in the morning line. The mutuel field, which includes all three-year-olds not listed individually, finished the betting period at 25-1.

Wagering was suspended on Notional and Birdbirdistheword after they were both declared out of the Run for the Roses with injuries.

A total of $465,123 was pushed through the betting windows, the third highest total for the year's final pool since its inception in 1999. This year's three future pools finished with the fourth largest total ever at $1,365,424.

The 133rd running of the $2 million Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 5.
