Horses To Watch

SANTA ANITA

AMBER TWILIGHT: Had trouble with the tight turns at Fairplex, but can be a factor at Santa Anita

vs. cheapies.

DANA’S DAWN: Showed speed in fairly well-bet first start at Fairplex, but then lost best chance when carried

out on the turn. Don’t ignore.

DEAL IN SPADES: First starter from low-profile connections outran 55-1 odds for fourth in debut despite trouble

at the start and into the turn. Live bomber.

EXPRESSIONIST: Chased a pair of favored front-runners around the track at Fairplex and finished with interest

for third. Can turn the tables at SA.

MACANN’S PROMISE: Well-bet first starter appeared to need a race. Still too early to give up on her.

MONTANASADIXIECHICK: Speedy first starter took a lot of money in debut but then couldn’t get to the lead

after getting squeezed back at the start. Still finished second and will be tough to beat back vs. cheap maidens.

PEPE LE MOCO: Broke slowly and had some traffic troubles when fourth in career debut, but was still the only

horse in that race to close ground from behind. Don’t overlook.

SOPHIE AND AL: Well-bet first starter lost all chance when she hesitated at the start, but still got up for third. Just

needs an alert break.

STAGE DOWN: Broke very slowly to lose all chance vs. optional claimers at Fairplex. Can rebound back at SA.

SUNNY SNOWBOUND: Had some trouble in the stretch in return from a seven-month layoff on 9/18. Can rebound in

second race off the layoff.

SUTTER STREET: Lost ground in a wide trip and still ran a nice race for third at Fairplex. Nearing his maiden victory.

SWEET HEAT: Blew the turn at Fairplex in career debut, but still ran competitively. Look for improvement at Santa Anita.

SWEETCAKESANSHAKES: Broke slowly and then rushed up into a duel for the lead in a small Fpx stakes in return from a

four-month layoff. Better luck next time.

TRISTIN’S RACE: Broke slowly and awkwardly and still got up for third behind a 9-5 favorite and a next-out maiden winner

on 9/15. Chance vs. cheap maidens.

VAYA DEL SOL: Outran 29-1 odds to finish a close third after a rough start at Fairplex. Can graduate in second race off

the layoff.

4STARSPECIAL: MISS BOOMTOWN: Had too much ground to make up after getting carried out into the first turn at Fpx

in return from a layoff. Prepped and ready to win at SA.

LONGSHOT: PACIFIC JOURNEY: Broke slowly in career debut but still didn’t run a bad race while showing plenty of late

interest at 22-1. Live at boxcar odds for Van Berg.

BAY MEADOWS

BANNERS FLYING: Clearly needed his first race off the long layoff. Showed no speed and ran fifth

(last) around the track. Shrewd outfit will have him sharper for his next start.

CHIMNEY FIRE: A couple of this mare’s recent efforts are better than they appear on paper. The warning

signs are there; head to the windows.

COURT’S IN SESSION: Handles turf and dirt and rarely runs a bad race. Can’t ask for much more.

FINAL FINALE: Beaten chalk’s recent defeat could be accounted for by the speed duel. Gets another

chance; just make sure the price is to your liking though.

LUCKY LOUISE: Has turned in four consecutive solid races since her dismal fourth July 4. All set to pay another

visit to the winner’s circle.

MIRACLE FLIGHT: Not known for winning, but can round out a nice gimmick at a price. His last three efforts say he’s

ready to put it all together.

PURE TALENT: Caught some bad luck in her bow. Sent off at 10-1, she pressed the pace, was blocked at the quarter

and eighth poles, angled out and ran a decent fifth. Right back.

ROYAL DOLL: It didn’t show last time, but the layoff was the right move. Expecting a better effort second start

off the vacation.

SAILOR’S DREAM: Finished fourth in both of her starts, but took a step forward last time. Graduation day is near.

SATIN DOLLY: Won at 18-1 Aug. 13, finished third at 12-1 Sep. 4 and ran a solid second at 7-1 last time out Sep. 20. Solid

performer on the local sod.

SYNERGIZE: Sprung to life at 29-1 with a third-place finish in his last attempt. An upset in the making; follow along.

TIGER SLEW: Looked sharp in a recent :47 1/5 bullet workout at Bay Meadows. Sitting on go.

VOODOO’S SISTER: Shipped in from Del Mar Sep. 19 and was a sharp winner in her turf debut. Follow this filly on

the way up.

4STARSPECIAL: OPERATIC: Has never run a bad race in his five-race career (two wins, two seconds and one third).

Hard to go against this gelding, especially at the current level.

LONGSHOT: JIM’S RELAUNCH: Winless in nine attempts this season, but owns some hidden form. Get a price and

go with it at the bottom level.
