HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

THISTLEDOWN

DAHLONEGA GOLD: Trailed the field early on through decent fractions and closed well to finish third at 23-1, follow with NW2L $6.25k claimers.

DASHFORTHEROSES: Was chasing the pace right from the start and was still there at the top of the lane before fading late to finish fourth, respect right back with similar.

FAST SUMMER: Stalked the pace while racing in third early on but then made a good move to take the lead at the top of the lane before flattening out to finish sixth; tab.

POLAR VIXEN: Did put in a nice effort to close some ground to finish third at 12-1 while racing behind slow early fractions, respect.

SLIDE BACK: Closed well to finish third about six lengths off the winner but did make up ground late for third on a track that favored speed.

BEST BET: FAXAPPEAL: Was never the far back while racing in midpack behind some solid splits and then closed some ground to finish third behind the two favorites; is ready to score with $4k claimers.

LONGSHOT: DANCES WITH FIRE: Was sent right to the lead with maiden claimers last out, set a solid half mile fraction before tiring; can surprise at a big price.

SUFFOLK

COZY DREAMS: Opened up a huge lead down the backside reaching a 10 length lead past the half but couldn’t hold on but did run on well to hold the place spot; scores with $4k claimers right back.

MANHATTAN ON ICE: Blasted clear from the gate while setting some very swift fractions and dug in gamely to hold on for the place spot behind a runaway winner, can wire a similar group.

THIS IS IT: Was off a step slow from the inside while sprinting on the turf but recovered nicely and closed well for the place spot, solid.

TIGER LIKE: Raced evenly throughout most recently over a sloppy/sealed track that favored speed all day and must be given another shot on a fair surface.

TIME HEALS: Shipped in from Finger Lakes for her last start, was quickly clear to the lead and tired in the drive to finish fourth over a sloppy track, follow back next out on a fast surface.

BEST BET: GROUNDSKEEPER: Three year old battled through the first quarter mile, took over the lead through solid splits but was run down late missing by less than a length while checking in third, tab.

LONGSHOT: DEBRAELLA: Chased the pace three wide while racing in midpack and did pass a few in the lane to finish third at 32-1; tab with NW2L $5k claimers.
