HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

TURFWAY PARK

ALTERED: Showed marked improvement to net diploma in his second lifetime start, and figures to build upon success locally; like this juvenile’s bloodlines.

EASY MONEY: Like more than just the name here – showed more early and overall interest when third in his latest and figures primed for upcoming third start of current form cycle.

GIRL NAMED SAM: Raced outside and with the pace but faltered in the lane to finish fifth in her latest; juvenile filly still learning her way, so stay patient.

MAKE A WAY: Chased the pace from the outside and stayed on for third when up in class for his most recent start; stays sharp.

MALLABAR: Chased and gave way from wide spot most recently, but on the heels of a hard-fought victory in his prior start which may have taxed him a bit; gets back on best.

NEON LIPSTICK: Returned from July-break, rated a touch, and finished well with wide move to prove best in ALW company; onward and upward.

NICKI’S WISH: Rallied wide and from well back to pick up a minor slice when fifth in her latest, but prior form suggests she can do more; course return propels her forward.

PRIMETIME PRINCESS: Showed the way early but weakened in the lane to finish sixth in her latest, her first experience on this surface; can do more.

SMARTY G: Put in a wide run from well back and managed third in a blanket finish most recently; continues move forward in form.

4*SPECIAL: RIDE THE WHIZ: Took tote play for debut but could only chase and fade from the inside; an education never hurt anybody.

LONGSHOT: WHY YIELD: Never got in the game when sixth in course return, but was meeting winners for the first time; should benefit and can surprise.

FAIRPLEX

DEVON INTERVENTION: Ran late in 5 1/2-furlong return from a year and a half layoff. Prepped and ready.

DIAMOND WAGER: Had a rough start and then ran into some traffic in troubled fourth-place finish. Fairplex is best shot at graduation.

EXCESSIVE CINDY: Outran 22-1 odds for third in return from a long layoff and got claimed by Doug O’Neill which is a good sign.

FOGGED IN: Toss out seventh-place finish at Fairplex on 9/8 when he clipped heels and lost all chance. Better luck next time vs. cheapies.

GAMES WE PLAY: Had an eventful trip when beaten at Fairplex on 9/7, but can improve with a better trip, and may handle Oak Tree’s Polytrack even better.

INTIMATE TALES: Claimed at Fairplex when racing too wide and not handling the turns in second-place finish as the favorite. Still a chance to graduate.

LA MANDONNA: Broke a step slow and closed too late when still managing to outrun 24-1 odds on 9/8. Presently sharper than given credit for.

MESA MAGIC: Showed speed but blew the turns at Fairplex. Front-running threat when they return to Oak Tree.

PHOEBE’S SONG: Was in the race from the beginning and still showing late interest after checking off heels into the stretch when third on closing day at Del Mar. Try again.

PRIZE OF THE CITY: Got caught in a four-length-gap battle for the lead when beaten at 6 1/2F at Fairplex on 9/8. Still a wire-to-wire threat, preferably at 6F.

QUEEN’S IMAGE: Got hooked in a four-way battle for the lead and lost to the closers as a result. Can shake loose and rebound off the claim by Hess.

RABBI: Lost his best chance when off slowly and then rushed up toward the lead at Fairplex on 9/9. Chance to rebound, mazel tov!

THUNDER ONE: Got hooked in a speed duel and finish off the board at Fairplex on 9/7. Still a threat to shake loose next time.

WILD NEKIA: Closed late buy ran out of ground behind the front-runners when unlucky to be third at Fairplex on 9/9. Don’t ignore in next.

BEST BET:  SWITZERLAND: Lost ground four wide into the first turn from a far outside post and than lacked room behind horses into the stretch. Can win with a better trip.

LONGSHOT: RUTHIE’S GIRL: Got trounced by a loose wire-to-wire winner, but was not too far out of second despite losing all momentum in trouble in deep stretch. Clear sailing helps vs. cheapo maiden claimers.
