HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

FAIR GROUNDS

CHARMING KID: Five year old gelding has had some time off since March and is working towards a return, preferably on the turf, stay close.

OLD COLONY: Has a good late kick and can get there if he gets the right pace up front, tab with $25k claimers going two turns.

PIP: Speedy five year old gelding has sharp early foot and can be tough to catch with $10k claimers if he can put some distance on the field early, tab if he shows up here.

RASPBERRY WINE: Five year old mare has good stalking speed and handles all surfaces very well, must respect coming back to the Fair Grounds.

ROARING REX: Has shown in the past that he likes this track and must be respected with lower level claimers, use in all exotics.

SAIL FROM SEATTLE: Well bred four year old colt by Gone West out of a Seattle Slew mare has speed and handles all surfaces, respect from solid barn against any kind.

BEST BET: MR. NIGHTLINGER: Three year old colt hails from solid barn and has a good record winning 1/3 of his starts, speedy sort should be tough returning to the site of his impressive maiden score.

LONGSHOT: SHE BURNS SUM: Has been preparing for this meeting since her March layoff and has run well in four starts over this course, should return running, tab.

CALDER

D J’S LUCK: Ran a huge third in his first start off the layoff in early October, then regressed to finish seventh last out. In good hands with Dwoskin; bounces back.

DARBY’S PAL: Continues to drop down the ladder, but finally found a spot where he can be competitive. Tab off third-place finish at $16K.

HIWAY THREETWENTY: Barn is off to a good start this meeting, and she held her own at first asking to finish fifth at 13-1. Further improvement is expected.

LITTLE MAN: Five-year-old hooked a very tough field following a neck maiden victory at $25K. Tab at a price in a more reasonable spot.

MEREDITH: Juvenile now has seven races under her belt, and put forth her best effort last time. Closed into slow fractions from seventh to finish a good third; ready to graduate.

PLAYFUL PAL: Is only two-for-32 lifetime, but is consistent enough to want to include in the exotics. Knocking on the door at $10K.

SALIENT FINISH: Has three starts under her belt since the layoff, and is quietly getting a little better with each attempt. Rounds out a hefty gimmick.

4 STAR SPECIAL: DIG FOR DINNER: Mare is fast enough to wire ‘em, but can also be rated. At her best up to seven furlongs.

LONGSHOT: GO SHORTY: It’s time to drop him down a notch following three double-digit defeats. Some of his prior form isn’t all that bad; take a look.
