Thanksgiving weekend record breaker for Pletcher

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Award winning trainer Todd Pletcher concluded a record breaking Thanksgiving weekend with a brand new earnings mark. The three-time champion trainer eclipsed his yearly record from 2006 on Friday at Hollywood Park.

Pletcher set the mark last year when he recorded $27,670,243 in earnings. He surpassed that number on Friday with a victory by The Leopard in the $111,800 Generous Stakes for two-year-olds on the turf.

Overall, Pletcher had five wins Friday, including victories by A. P. Arrow in the $500,000 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs and by Mini Sermon in the $150,000 Top Flight at Aqueduct. His stable earned $585,612 on the day to push his season total to $26,850,873, $30,630 more than last year.

"It was a good day," Pletcher said from Louisville. "It's nice to break the record with some important wins. It's been a great year for the whole team."

In addition, according to statistics provided by Equibase Company, Pletcher is closing in on his North American single-season record for wins in Graded Stakes races. Through racing November 25, Pletcher has 54 wins, three shy of his previous record of 57 graded stakes wins set in 2006.

Pletcher is also nearing his North American single-season record for wins in stakes races. Through Sunday, Pletcher has 90 wins, 10 away of his current mark of 100 stakes wins, established in 2006.

Through Sunday Pletcher has won 271 races this year from 1167 starts and has earnings of $27,744,120.
