Empire Maker may not go in Travers

Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker is listed as doubtful for Saturday"s $1 million Travers Stakes. The three- year-old was entered Wednesday along with Peace Rules as an entry, Trainer Bobby Frankel indicated that the colt has not been feeling well and appeared lethargic. Empire Maker did not train on Thursday after showing a slightly elevated temperature.
A final decision will be made on Friday. Peace Rules will only run in the Travers if Empire Maker is scratched. Otherwise, the winner of the Haskell Invitational will run in the Pennsylvania Derby on Labor Day at Philadelphia Park. A total of eight three-year-olds were entered for the 1 1/4 mile Travers. Empire Maker and Peace Rules were judged the 8-5 favorites. Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide is the second choice at 3-1. Jim Dandy winner Strong Hope is 4-1 in the
morning line along with Sky Mesa. Ten Most Wanted, the runner-up in the Belmont Stakes, is 6-1 in the program. At 15-1 is Congrats, the third-place horse in the Jim Dandy, while Wild and Wicked is 20-1.
