Field set for initial Kentucky Derby Future Wager

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - The 24 betting interests have been revealed for the first of three Kentucky Derby Future Wagers this year. The 24 includes 23 individual horses and an "all others" mutuel field slot.

The first future wager will open on Thursday, February 12 at 12 p.m. (et) and conclude on Sunday, February 15 at 6 p.m. (et). Pool two is scheduled for March 12-15 and the third and final pool will be conducted April 2-5.

Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia has made "all others" the 5-2 morning-line favorite for the future wager. The mutuel field has been favored in the opening pool in each of the first 10 years of the Derby Future bet.

The 10-1 second choices among the 23 horses are Old Fashioned and Capt. Candyman Can. Old Fashioned is the expected favorite in the President's Day running of the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Capt. Candyman Can began his three-year-old campaign by winning the Hutcheson Stakes last month at Gulfstream Park.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile champ Midshipman leads a group at 12-1. This group includes Risen Star Stakes winner Friesan Fire, Eclipse Award winner Stardom Bound, This Ones for Phil, Robert B. Lewis Stakes winner Pioneerof the Nile and Vineyard Haven. Stardom Bound, winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Filly, is the lone filly among the betting interests.
