HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

GULFSTREAM

BROS SIS: Returned from the bench with a sixth-place finish in February, then took a step forward when dropped to $10K finishing a close third. Ready to get her picture taken.

CASANOVA MOVE: No shame in finishing second behind Justwhistledixie in graded stakes in her last two. Hard to believe she only has one win; has hooked a lot of tough fields throughout her career.

CITY ON LINE: Drop to $20K claimers certainly woke up this New York-bred. Rallied from last of 10 to complete the exacta at 9-1; looking good for “The Chief.”

HOMETOWN BOY: Followed a 40-1 victory with a respectable fourth at 16-1. Faced a very salty allowance field in latest and it couldn’t have helped having him toss his head at the start; very intriguing at a price.

SILKILY: Three straight third-place finishes since getting claimed for $25K, including one last time at 12-1. Mare handles sprints and routes; dangerous.

WE HAVE IGNITION: Claimed by Scott Lake for $20K out of a sixth-place finish. Good enough to win a special weight last year, and came within a head of winning for $40K in January; wouldn’t be surprised if he got his act back together.

4 STAR SPECIAL: DWELLING PLACE: Switched to grass off the October layoff with a huge effort, running off with a 2 ¼-length maiden tally for Lael Stables and Barclay Tagg. Plenty of upside.

LONGSHOT: SWAP MANDATE: Winless in nine career starts, but has recently turned in a pair of fourth-place finishes at 119-1 and 61-1. At least include her underneath in some gimmicks.

GOLDEN GATE

COUNT THE CASH: Had no pace to run at in his two-turn debut and paid the price, finishing a well-beaten third. Gets a pass for latest; like his two prior attempts going six furlongs.

CROXIE: Never worse than fourth in six career starts. Has followed a starter allowance victory in February with a third-place finish at 9-1 and a second at 22-1 against tougher optional claiming company. Hard to knock.

DANCE TO MY LOU: Off the board only once in nine career starts, and that effort took place in her Hollywood debut last July. Benchmark filly is as tough as nails.

FOLLOWS NONE: Has posted one win and a pair of third-place finishes at 23-1 and 14-1 since making the trip from Santa Anita. Keeps it rolling.

GRAPE ESCAPE: Doesn’t put them back-to-back, but has recently placed second at 52-1 and third at 34-1. Watch out if this mare gets a legit pace to run at.

GREY LASSIE: Made those consecutive 10th-place finishes a distant memory with a good second when dropped to $20K. Back in action.

OLD MUSKET: Followed a well-beaten fourth at first asking with a rallying third at 7-1. Four-year-old gelding is on his way.

PRIME RULER: His backers were treated to a third-place finish at 13-1 in his most recent attempt. Consistent gelding is always in with a shot at the basement.

PRINCESS HIAWATHA: Still hasn’t learned how to win following 18 career starts, but is consistently in the mix. Can’t remain a maiden forever.

4 STAR SPECIAL: BETTERWINSOME: First or second in six in a row, and hasn’t gone off as the favorite in any of those attempts. What are you waiting for?

LONGSHOT: TENSE BET: Not a big fan of getting his picture taken, but is more than capable of sneaking in the exotics at double-digits. Tab off good third at 11-1.
