HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
GULFSTREAM PARK
CHISTOSA: Finally resurfaced after a sharp debut win last July to place a respectable fourth at 25-1 against a salty allowance group. Keep close tabs on this filly; turf may be an option for her as well.
GIRL GLITTER: Speedster ran one of her best races in quite some time after stumbling at the start most recently. Tab off second-place finish at 14-1.
GREAT INSPIRATION: Big-time improvement switching to grass in her second start, rallying to finish a close third. Graduates shortly.
LEMON SPICE: Really like what this gelding has accomplished since joining the Bennie Stutts Jr. barn. Two wins out of his last three starts; keeps up the good work.
LYRICAL STAR: Showed good speed, led to the stretch, and tired late to finish third in her first start since early January. Will wire cheap maiden claimers very soon.
SILVER ASHLEE: Doesn’t like to win, but has closed a lot of ground in her last two starts. Toss in gimmicks at right price.
4 STAR SPECIAL: MINER’S RESERVE: Eye-catching maiden winner looked razor sharp earning his diploma when stretched to a mile in his second start. Future stakes winner for Zito.
LONGSHOT: FUTURAZO: Now has three starts under his belt since the layoff, and has improved in his last two to run fourth at 20-1 and third at 35-1. Toss in your gimmicks.
GOLDEN GATE
ALL ABOUT YOU: Three straight third-place finishes since dropping to $8k maiden claimers. Will break through one of these days.
ISLAND OF ZEN: Has swift early speed, a Hollywood maiden victory, a Golden Gate starter allowance tally, and a sharp trainer in Greg Gilchrist. Need we say more?
MY TOPPER: Has run better than expected in his first two attempts against winners, including a third-place finish at 83-1 last time. Lights up the tote board.
OCEAN LAD: Stretch in distance to a mile brought out the best in this gelding--a close third-place finish at 14-1. On his way for the Cassidy barn.
RED HOT CHARLOTTE: Understandably took longer to graduate after beginning her career in SoCal, and has really started to turn the corner since turning four. Dangerous going long and short.
RETROS LAST FLIGHT: Doesn’t line up that often, but this six-year-old maiden has taken some big steps in his last two efforts. Hard not to support, especially at prices like 9-1, 14-1…
VICTORY CHECK: Debut run should prove to be a very good education for this son of Victory Gallop. Gets better with experience.
WEEKEND ESCAPE (IRE): Other than a well-beaten seventh over a yielding turf course last October, this gelding has done very little wrong. Follow off the William Morey claim.
WHIMS AND FANCIES: Quietly rounding into form since returning from the bench in December. Recent third-place finish at 11-1 is a sign of better things to come.
4 STAR SPECIAL: IMADETHECASHCALL: Tired late to finish third when stepped up to $8k off the claim. Very solid since shipping from SoCal, and can sit on or off the pace; gets back on track.
LONGSHOT: RISING ABOVE: Had no pace to run at while last of six through fractions of :25.95 and :51.37, and still came running late to place a close third. Can’t remain a maiden forever.
