Sidney's Candy garners San Felipe Stakes

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (Sports Network) - Sidney's Candy, winner of the San Vicente Stakes, made it two straight Saturday by winning the $150,000 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita Park. The colt covered the 1 1/16-miles in 1:42.30.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Sidney's Candy took the lead shortly after the start and was never headed by his six rivals. Pressing the pace were Interactif and American Lion. Caracortado, the 7-5 favorite, was racing in fourth, about five lengths off the lead.

Sidney's Candy, trained by John Sadler, ran the entire race on the inside part of the track. Down the stretch Interactif tried to challenge the leader, but Sidney's Candy was able to prevail by a half-length at the wire.

Interactif was followed by Caracortado, American Lion, Stephen's Got Hope, Dave in Dixie and Erbeia.

Sidney's Candy is owned by the Sid and Jenny Craig Trust. The chestnut colt earned $90,000 Saturday to bring his career earnings to $223,560. The three- year-old has won three of five lifetime starts with Talamo as his only rider.

Sidney's Candy paid $9.60, $5.20 and $3.20. Interactif returned $6.60 and $3.20, and Caracortado paid $2.40 to show.

Next up at Santa Anita for Kentucky Derby hopefuls is the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby on Saturday, April 3.
