Next start for Rachel Alexandra undecided

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Less than two weeks after suffering a second straight loss, reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra is back in training for an as yet unknown race.

"All options are open," trainer Steve Asmussen said on the filly's next race.

Monday morning at Churchill Downs 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra had her first workout since losing the La Troienne to Unrivaled Belle by a head.

The four-year-old went a half-mile in 50 seconds with jockey Shaun Bridgmohan in the saddle.

Owned by Stonestreet Stable and Hal McCormick, Rachel Alexandra galloped out five-furlongs in 1:05 3/5.

"It was an easy first work back," said Asmussen. "It's a nice cool morning and everything is ideal today. It's another step in the process."

The champion filly suffered her first loss of the year at the Fair Grounds on March 13 to Zardana by three-quarters of a length in the New Orleans Ladies Classic.

Rachel Alexandra has career earnings of just over $3 million with 11 wins in 16 lifetime races.
