Inglewood, CA (Sports Network) - Julie Krone, thoroughbred racing's most successful
female jockey, will not return to riding for the
foreseeable future. The Hall of Fame jockey suffered possible rib and sternum
fractures in a track accident earlier this month at Hollywood Park.
According to Dr. Tom Harris, the 40-year-old Krone has separated ribs and severe
tissue damage along with inflammation, which is causing serious pain. Dr. Harris
evaluated X-rays and an MRI scan of Krone when she visited the doctor on Tuesday.
A more complete prognosis will be available after a CT scan is conducted.
Last Friday Krone was thrown from her mount in the third race at Hollywood Park.
Her mount, Clover Situation, was unable to avoid the fallen Skidoo which fractured
his right front leg. Clover Situation was uninjured, however, Skidoo was humanely
destroyed.
Krone will not ride Victory U.S.A. in Sunday's $200,000 Hollywood Starlet for
two-year-old fillies. Trainer Bob Baffert has engaged David Flores for the race.
