Rinterval doing fine after paddock mishap

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Highly regarded mare Rinterval is expected back at Keeneland Tuesday afternoon after a paddock accident at Hollywood Park on Saturday. The five-year-old chestnut mare flipped in the paddock before the $250,000 Lady's Secret Stakes.

"It wasn't bad, but we didn't want to take any chances," said trainer Eric Reed. "She's doing fine. She worked at Hollywood yesterday (Monday)."

Owned by Jerry Jamgotchian, Rinterval had to be scratched from the Lady?s Secret Stakes where she was to face undefeated champion Zenyatta.

Zenyatta won the Lady's Secret to run her career unbeaten streak to 19 races.

Reed said Rinterval hit her head when she flipped in Hollywood Park's paddock and suffered a minor cut on her left stifle when she fell sideways.

The Irish-bred mare worked five-furlongs in 1:00 4/5 on Monday.

Rinterval was second to Zenyatta, beaten by a neck, in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar on August 7. On July 4 at Arlington Park she was second to Eclipse Award winner Informed Decision in the Chicago Handicap, losing by a head.

In 23 career starts the five-year-old has won three times with six second- place finishes for $582,742. This year she has earned $128,065 with one win in seven starts.
