HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

PENN NATIONAL

H W GOODIE: Put in a fair bid when third, beaten just under 13 lengths, behind a runaway in his racing debut; pedigree suggests juvenile colt can get better with experience and/or over more ground.

SAPPHIRE AVENUE: Overcame a slow break and lived up to odds-on billing by putting in a sustained wide rally to best 11 rivals by three lengths in her latest score; right back in next logical spot.

SEIBERT ROAD: Made the pace and weakened to finish third in an overall good try when in with winners for the first time in his latest; lightly raced 4YO colt benefits from mile effort, his first beyond six panels.

TOUGH TURKEY: Put in a good run and just missed when second, beaten a neck, in his latest over sloppy ground; gets elusive NW2L score in follow up try at route.

WILMETTE: Settled for second behind blowout winners in each of her last two, and has shown improvement in recent starts; her turn for overdue score next time.

4*SPECIAL: SWISS A: Battled on the pace and gave out to finish fifth in his first spin with winners when in from FPX most recently; can shake free next time.

LONGSHOT: TINA’S TIGER: Raced wide and weakened, but from tough outside post position (10) at five-furlong trip, and did manage fifth of 10 in her latest; could lead to surprise score.

WOODBINE

BANKER LARRY: Chased wide throughout and put in a game try for fourth in his latest; seems to be inching closer to maiden score, but just might need the right weak MSW or MCL spot to be certain.

BLINDSIDEHIT: Found her best stuff late when second, beaten only a nose, in unveiling for Doyle barn; juvenile filly by Bluegrass Cat is worth following.

FAST YANKEE: Faced both winners and a route of ground for the first time in his latest, and responded to challenges with a good third-place try; another tumble for trainer Reade Baker.

GENTLE ANGEL: Sped to front and simply failed to last in good second-place try at first asking for owner/trainer Brian Lynch; next time.

MIA D’COUGAR: Put in a wide run to contention and weakened late in fifth-place bid most recently, just her second try since back from two-month break; moves forward, and at a price.

SHE WANTS: Made some progress from wide spot and between rivals with a rally for a close fourth in her latest; proves useful $16K-claim for trainer Attard.

SUMMANUS: Chased the pace and couldn’t mount a rally in fair fifth-place try on drop to claiming company most recently, albeit an open spot; eligible for NW2L.

4*SPECIAL: BAYLAND: Showed gameness to be along in time for nose victory as a fresh face most recently; something to build on, he can take another.

LONGSHOT: QUARTERBACK: Put in an improved try at long odds to finish a narrowly beaten fourth at restricted stakes level most recently; still likely to offer value, that’s my quarterback.
