HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

TURF PARADISE

CHAPLAIN: Six year old gelding returned from a June layoff last out, stalked the runners from sixth but closed very well through the lane to score by a length, loves this track and can have a big winter.

BEAUCARDI: Improved significantly in his second start over the track last out to finish a solid third at 51-1; must be followed right back with basement claimers.

RIO BRILLA: Three year old filly came out running from the rail but was under pressure right from the start and folded into the lane when it counted finishing seventh, a slight drop can do and a better pace scenario will also help.

IS THAT SO: Has shown improvement in both starts over this track, a good fourth despite trouble at the start two back and then a good closing second to a runaway winner last out, ready to break her maiden, tab.

CONDITIONAL: Nine year old gelding has been sharpened in two short sprints in his last two races and both resulted in even finishes; a stretch back out in distance may get him back to the winners’ circle.

BEST BET: ASAY CREEK: Speedy four year old gelding came out of the gate running last out and battled head to head for the lead through some very solid fractions and tired in the lane to finish fourth; should be all set in his third start back off the layoff; stay close.

LONGSHOT: ZAGORA’S PRIDE: Three year old gelding ran a much improved race in his second start back off a March layoff when he checked in third at 49-1; fits with NW2L claimers and the value is there.

FAIR GROUNDS

KING OF SPEED: Hard hitting 11yo gelding still has something left in the tank and has earned almost $600,000 in his career with 27 wins as of this writing, handles all surfaces and will be very tough at this meeting.

EVADE: Handles turf, dirt, and synthetics all the same and should be one to reckon with mid-level claimers for solid barn, tab.

DIAMANTE DE ORO: Speedy four year old gelding can win on the turf or the main track and will be very tough especially with a clear early lead.

APPEALING VISION: Has sharp early speed and fits with lower level claimers, look for her to take a field or two before this meeting is up.

WHEELING WINI: Has run two solid races over this track albeit against maiden claimers, can handle the dirt and turf so stay close.

BEST BET: PATRICIA: Hard hitting eight year old mare loves the turf and she still has something left in the tank; look for her over the lawn with mid-level claimers.

LONGSHOT: OCONEE: Has high early foot and sometimes forgets to stop; has won over the turf and dirt and is a threat to take them all the way, follow.
