Zenyatta to make appearance at Keeneland

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Champion mare Zenyatta will make a public appearance next Monday at Keeneland Race Course prior to her arrival at Lane's End Farm.

Lane's End has announced that the recently retired Zenyatta will parade in Keeneland's paddock around 4:15 p.m. (et) on Monday, December 6. This will be the public's final opportunity to see the six-year-old champion before she is transported to her new home at Lane's End.

Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, Zenyatta was retired from racing to begin her second career as a broodmare. Twice voted the Eclipse Award as champion older female, Zenyatta was trained by John Shirreffs and ridden by Mike Smith.

Undefeated through her first 19 races, Zenyatta set a North American female record in earnings with $7,304,580. In 2008 she won the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic and became the first female to win the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2009.

The mare closed her career in this year's Breeders' Cup Classic where she was the even-money favorite. After trailing the field in the 1 1/4-mile race, Zenyatta and Smith mounted an impressive rally in an attempt to repeat in the $5 million race.

Zenyatta suffered her first and only defeat when she fell a head short of beating four-year-old colt Blame.

Prior to her arrival in Kentucky, Zenyatta will make her final public appearance at Hollywood Park, where she has been stables, during a special celebration this Sunday.

The champion will visit the saddling paddock after the sixth race and will then go to the track and parade in front of both the grandstand and clubhouse area.
