Arlington Million tops Arlington Park 2011 stakes

Arlington Heights,IL (Sports Network) - The 29th edition of the Arlington Million highlights the 2011 stakes schedule at Arlington Park. A total of 22 stakes will conducted this year at the suburban Chicago facility.

Arlington Million XXIX will be the central race for the International Festival of Racing on Saturday, August 13. Along with the 1 1/4-mile turf event, the Festival will feature the $750,000 Beverly D. for fillies and mares and the $400,000 Secretariat Stakes for three-year-olds, both to be on the grass.

This year Arlington Park will run 86 days of racing from Friday, May 6 through Sunday, September 25. The 22 stakes will be worth a total of $4.3 million.

The 2010 Arlington Million was won by Debussy over Gio Ponti who won the previous year. Gio Ponti would go on to finish second to Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile and receive his second straight Eclipse Award as champion turf male.
