Eclipse Award winners to mate

Versailles, KY (Sports Network) - Horse of the Year Zenyatta will be bred to a former Triple Crown race winner as she begins her life as a broodmare.

Jerry and Ann Moss, owners of the four-time Eclipse Award champ. announced Wednesday that the seven-year-old mare will be bred to 2006 Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini.

The eight-year-old Bernardini was voted 2006 three-year-old male of the year. The son of A.P. Indy won the Travers Stakes and was second to Invasor in the 2006 Breeders' Cup Classic.

Zenyatta finished her career with 19 wins in 20 starts, including the 2008 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic and is the only female to capture the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2009. Last year she lost by a head to Blame in the Classic at Churchill Downs.

The mare was the champion older female from 2008-2010 and is boarded at Lane's End Farm.
