HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
TAMPA BAY DOWNS
BEANTOWN: Moved back to the main track for his latest and didn’t offer much on sprint scene off a slow break; offers value, so pay attention to Exposito barn that clicked at 27% last year.
CRIMSON KNIGHT: Most recently managed third through trouble (“Boxed, bumped, bid”) in return to course over which he won his maiden; next time, and turf could also be an option.
HARLEY’S HEAT: Hasn’t offered much in a couple of starts since back from break of nearly 10 months, but should improve; 4YO finding his legs and is proven over course.
IRISH WITCH: Has basically only passed tired rivals late in a couple of stakes tries since back from brief respite; needs pace/race luck, but can come with necessary finish in near future.
PETEY BEDOUIN: Has shown some life in recent starts since back from August-layoff; long past due to crack NW2L condition, but certainly worth using underneath in gimmicks.
SPANISH AMBASSADOR: Chased throughout and stayed on for a close fourth of 10 in turf return most recently; versatile mare gives McMullen barn many options.
ZERO NINE LIMA: Rallied wide and was along in time for a nice win in his first attempt with winners most recently; fresh face is two-for-two since arriving locally and can keep rolling.
4*SPECIAL: MR. MISCHIEF: Returned from a brief respite and made up some ground from well back to finish a fair fifth of 10; expect more early and throughout next time.
LONGSHOT: ALL THE BASES: Veteran with a touch of class should only improve upon sixth-place finish through traffic most recently; fires in second start since last-October.
FAIR GROUNDS
A RANG A TANG: Didn’t have the best start from rail post, chased the pace, and weakened to fifth in his latest; another chance.
BORN INDY U S A: Returned to turf and proved a nice winner in just her second start since last-November most recently; daughter of A.P. Indy keeps improving.
FARCE IDE: Gained second off claim by trainer T. Richey in her first spin off easy maiden win; continues to develop and notch NW2L score.
GAELIC LASS: Returned from six-week break and rallied from wide spot just off the pace to prove best as the choice; takes another for winning Amoss barn.
LUSTERDUST: Chased throughout and finished third of five off wide journey in his latest; should move up off his first attempt with winners.
OVERBID: Shot clear on the pace on stretch to route trip and stayed on for game second in first start off claim by trainer J. Gibson; stays sharp.
RECITE: Rallied wide from well back to be along for third in what should prove a perfect sprint debut for 3YO filly with distance pedigree; follow for McGee barn.
4*SPECIAL: EAGLE PUTT: Had romped in maiden win over synthetic TP track last-January, and showed in latest second start back from break that she could speed and win on dirt; climbs ladder.
LONGSHOT: JAMI BABY: Has shown subtle signs, most recently an improved fourth back on turf, since back from March-layoff; use for M. Nicks barn.
