Injury sidelines Derby hopeful Tapizar

Arcadia, CA (Sports Network) - Kentucky Derby prospect Tapizar has been diagnosed with an injury and is out of Triple Crown consideration. The three- year-old colt has a bone chip in one of his knees.

Trainer Steve Asmussen told the Daily Racing Form that Tapizar will have surgery to remove the bone chip. The procedure will be done in Kentucky by Dr. Larry Bramlage.

Last Saturday Tapizar finished fifth in the $250,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita Park as the 3-10 favorite. Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, the colt won the Sham Stakes last month at Santa Anita

Tapizar has won two of six career starts for $110,632.
