Del 'Cap set for July at Delaware Park


Stanton, DE (Sports Network) - The 74th edition of the $750,000 Delaware Handicap headlines Delaware Park's 2011 stakes schedule. The historic racetrack will have 22 stakes for nearly $3.2 million

Won last year by Life at Ten, the Delaware Handicap will be held on Saturday, July 16. The 2010 win by Life at Ten gave trainer Todd Pletcher his fourth Del 'Cap victory. The stakes is for older females at 1 1/4-miles on the main track.

Coming up a week before the Del 'Cap will be the 1 1/16-mile $300,000 Delaware Oaks for three-year-old fillies. Last year Blind Luck won the Delaware Oaks and was later voted champion three-year-old filly of the year. She would finish second to Unrivaled Belle in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic in November.

Delaware Park's 74th season gets underway on April 30 and concludes on November 5. There will be a total of 106 days of live racing.
