Master David spoils return of Action This Day

By: Sports Network

Arcadia, CA (Sports Network) - Eclipse Award winner Action This Day
came up short in his return to the races Sunday at Santa Anita Park. Starting for
the first time
since winning the Breeders" Cup Juvenile, last year"s two-year-old male champion finished fourth in the
$75,000 Sham Stakes. Posting the victory was Master David and jockey Alex Solis.
Master David was coming off a third-place finish last month in the Santa Catalina
Stakes. Finishing second in the Sham was Borrego, with Preachinatthebar third. The
time for the 1 1/8 miles was 1:49.20.
Action This Day is attempting to become the first winner of the Breeders" Cup
Juvenile race to ever win the Kentucky Derby. No champion two-year-old has won the
Run for the Roses since Spectacular Bid in 1979.
Master David is trained by Hall of Fame member Bobby Frankel, who won last year"s
Eclipse Award as the nation"s top conditioner. The three-year-old colt adds $45,000
to his bankroll which now totals $115,000.
Master David returned $4.20, $3.20 and $2.80. Borrego paid $5.20 and $4.20, and
Preachinatthebar paid $3.40 for show.
