HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
TAMPA BAY DOWNS
ANANDI: Rated, rallied, and drew out to easy debut score over yielding turf course; 3YO filly with plenty of promise for C. Clement barn.
BEDOUIN: Has been in and out of form of late, but is capable of surprise on one of her better efforts; forward placement from the start helps her cause.
JACKFROST OFCOURSE: Chased throughout and continued on gamely through the lane when second best in his belated racing debut at long odds; price shrinks next time, performance doesn’t.
QUITE A DUDE: Spun wheels early and got on track a bit late when fourth in off-the-turf dash most recently; back to winning ways on turf next time.
REY DEL SOL: Put in a middle move only to come up empty and finish a distant fourth in off-the-turf spot most recently; proven veteran has 11 lifetime wins, and can get back on best in turf return.
ROCK IN BAGE (BRZ): Made up ground to finish third in off-the-turf spot most recently, an encouraging hold of his form; proven turf performer moves up in third start of current form cycle.
SCHELL SHOCKER: Rated and rallied from just off the pace to notch second straight score most recently; needed nine starts to crack maiden ranks, but has the knack now.
4*SPECIAL: RUNAWAY SUZANNA: Gained ground from well back to finish second in off-the-turf try most recently; encouraging she kept form, but daughter of Runaway Groom seems best suited to turf.
LONGSHOT: STOLEN CHEVY: Dueled on the pace and weakened to finish fourth when making his first start since claimed by Gorham barn, which showed confidence on stretch to route and class rise; next time.
WOODBINE
BIBI’S DOLL: Put forth a very game effort when second after battling on the pace in her first start with winners off a November-layoff most recently; 3YO filly with upside.
KID CANUCK: Overcame a slow break with a wide rally to finish a narrowly beaten fourth in season’s debut; son of Kitten’s Joy moves forward.
MYAH’S FLIGHT: Turned in a more than acceptable third with a good finish along the inside when back from a seven-month layoff most recently; gets elusive NW2L score.
OCHO CABALLERO: Returned from December-layoff and made his third start over as many different surfaces most recently; fourth-place finish, beaten just a couple of lengths, is more than enough to build on.
TETHRA’S WORD: Could only manage third as the choice for her first start since last-October; lightly raced and veteran mare has the ability, but also had the right to need a leg-stretcher.
TIME SHARING: Chased gamely but couldn’t make an impact in fourth-place finish off the break most recently; offers value, so use in gimmicks.
4*SPECIAL: AREPEATEE: Raced up close early, dropped back, and then finished up nicely for fourth of 11 in a very useful effort off the bench; strong Tiller barn has screws wound tighter for next time.
LONGSHOT: SPIT SPAT SPEIGHT: Showed the way on the pace and weakened to finish third in his first non-turf start on move to synthetic most recently; upside for Thornbury barn.
