Dialed In puts in work for Kentucky Derby

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Boynton Beach, FL (Sports Network) - Probable Kentucky Derby favorite Dialed In worked four-furlongs Thursday morning in preparation for the Run for the Roses on May 7. The three-year-old colt, trained by Nick Zito, is stabled at Palm Meadows near Gulfstream Park.

Owned by Robert LaPenta, Dialed In went the half-mile in 48.40 and galloped out five-furlongs in 1:01.40. The colt was very consistent, covering each furlong in 12 seconds.

"This is what I wanted, those 12s," said Zito of the 12-second splits. "This horse is very rippled. This horse is very ready. I can guarantee this horse is not going to be short. I can't guarantee anything else, but I'll tell you he won't be short. We know the kind of horse he is. Any horse that gives you the last eighth in 11 and change, I don't know what else he can give you? The horse is happy here. He likes the track."

Dialed In, who will be ridden by Julien Leparoux in the Derby, won the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on April 3. He began the year with a victory in the Holy Bull Stakes and then finished second to older horses in an allowance race.

The colt has banked $879,206 with three wins in four career starts.
