By: SPORTS NETWORK
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Larry Collmus has been tabbed by NBC Sports to call this year's Triple Crown races for television. Collmus will replace Tom Durkin, who stepped aside for health reasons.
The 44-year-old Collmus is the current track announcer at Monmouth Park and Gulfstream Park. The Baltimore native has been calling races since 1985 when he began at his home track, Bowie Racecourse.
This year's Triple Crown series gets underway with the 137th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 7. Two weeks later at Pimlico Race Course will be the 136th Preakness Stakes. The 143rd Belmont Stakes will be held on June 11 at Belmont Park.
