The Factor won't run in the Kentucky Derby
By: SPORTS NETWORK
Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - The Factor will not run in the Kentucky Derby on May 7 as he continues to recover from a minor surgical procedure.
After finishing seventh as the 4-5 favorite in the Arkansas Derby on April 16, The Factor underwent throat surgery to correct a displaced palate that caused breathing problems.
The Factor became the Kentucky Derby favorite earlier this month after Uncle Mo lost in the Wood Memorial on April 9, then came up short at Oaklawn Park a week later.
Trained by Bob Baffert, The Factor won the San Vicente Stakes in February and captured the Rebel Stakes in March to establish himself as an early Kentucky Derby contender.
The three-year-old, owned by Fog City Stable and George Bolton, is the winner of three of five career starts for $307,180.
