Shackleford arrives at Belmont Park

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elmont, NY (Sports Network) - Preakness Stakes champ Shackleford arrived Memorial Day at Belmont Park 12 days before a probable start in the Belmont Stakes. The three-year-old colt got to the track shortly before 10 a.m. (et) Monday after an overnight van ride from Churchill Downs.

"He looks good," said Scotty Everett, assistant trainer to Dale Romans. "We are excited to have him here at Belmont."

Shackleford, fourth in the Kentucky Derby, will go to the track on Wednesday to become familiar with the 1 1/2-mile oval. Romans indicated that a final decision on the colt going in the third leg of racing's Triple Crown will come later this week.

The colt has earnings this year of better than $1.4 million after winning the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, including a $500,000 bonus to owners Michael Lauffer and W.D. Cubbedge.
