HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

HOLLYWOOD / DEL MAR

CLOUD HOPPER: Ran his eyeballs out for second, just missing despite being overlooked at 36-1 in career debut. Set to graduate.

COO CACHOO: Pressed a suicidal route pace and faded to last as a result of those early efforts. Toss out that race and try again off the claim.

DANCE LITTLE ANGEL: Couldn’t get rolling from off the pace after getting stuck behind horses on multiple occasions. Better luck next time.

HOMEWORK: Outran 20-1 odds for third, just a head behind the 3-5 favorite in second. Ready to graduate.

IMPERIAL PRIDE: Ran well for fourth, just a nose out of third in first race back from more than a year layoff. Needed the race, dangerous.

IMPONENTE PURSE: Got stuck in traffic from the top of the stretch to mid-stretch when trying to rally in first race back from a 2 ½-month layoff. Just needs clear sailing.

MINT HUMOR: Showed speed in return from a seven-month layoff and did the best of the front-runners for third. Can win second off the layoff.

OBSESS: Set a blazingly fast and unrealistic pace in a turf route before tiring to fourth. Wire-to-wire threat with better rating from the jockey.

PRINCE REXY: Needed a race off a year+ layoff, but closed for third after some trouble on the first turn in return try. Worth another shot.

REBECCA: Broke slowly and got squeezed back to begin too far back behind a loose lone speed wire-to-wire winning favorite. Should be ready in second race off eight-month layoff.

SENTIMENTAL BALLAD: Steadied in traffic several times en route to a tough-luck third-place finish. May not be a maiden much longer.

STAR NICHOLAS: Disappointed as the favorite when caught chasing a loose lone speed wire-to-wire winner. Can make amends.

STERLING OUTLOOK: Got hooked and cooked in a three-length-gap speed duel in fast :22.4, :45.3 turf route fractions. Can rebound.

SUPER ABILITY: First starter showed good speed in career debut and held on for fourth, just a head out of third. Dangerous speed vs. local maidens.

BEST BET: ROSEHILL DEW: Broke slowly to start last in a seven-horse field, but managed to close strongly for second behind a moderate pace despite traffic in a race where no other horse gained from off the pace.

LONGSHOT: ROARING TIMES: Bobbled in a slow start to lose his best chance behind a slow pace set by a loose lone speed winner. Can win second race off the 2 ½-month layoff.

ARLINGTON

CALICO COUNTRY: Lost some position in traffic on the turn, causing her late rally to end up a length short. Still looms a threat vs. turf maidens off of that third-place finish.

DOILOOKFATINTHESE: Set a pressured pace and held on well for second in a race otherwise dominated by stalkers and closers.

GOING BALLISTIC: Finished with interest when needing a race off a seven-month layoff, finishing fourth just a neck out of third. Worth another shot.

HOGAN BEACH: Late rally chances were interrupted when steadied out of a tight spot in the stretch. Better luck next time.

I AM THE SHERIFF: Tried to come from too far back behind a moderate pace and came up just a little bit short despite a strong rally for third from the rear of an 11-horse field. Just needs a better pace to chase.

LA ROCCA: Returned from a seven-month layoff in a tough spot in the G3 Chicago Hcp., and still managed to close well for second, outrunning 22-1 odds despite traffic trouble.

LIGHTNING BLUE: Had traffic trouble after the start and later clipped heels in a bad trip en route to a fourth-place finish. Can improve with clear sailing.

PRYCE’S POSSE: Got caught in a four-length-gap speed duel and held on for second behind only the winning 3-5 favorite. Try again.

SORROWFUL JONES: Got hooked in a speed duel in a front-end battle joined by many challengers before fading to fourth due to those early efforts. Still a threat to shake loose up front at a good price.

TIGER MIKE: Got off to a poor start and then rushed up into a four-way battle for the lead before settling for third as a result of those early efforts.

BEST BET: TACTICAL KATIE: Got hooked in a two-way and then a three-way duel for the lead and held on nicely for second in overlooked career debut at 14-1. Shouldn’t be a maiden for long.

LONGSHOT: WOODSWIND: Pressed and set a live 7 ½-furlong pace and never got a breather up front after hounding from multiple challengers. Outran 19-1 odds for third behind the winning 1-2 odds favorite and a perfect-trip stalker.
