Oaklawn Park names new announcer

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Hot Springs, AR (Sports Network) - Oaklawn Park has named Frank Mirahmadi as its new track announcer, taking over from Terry Wallace who retired after 37 years.

"I am very grateful for this incredible opportunity," said Mirahmadi. "Oaklawn is one of the premier tracks in the country with an outstanding reputation for quality racing and large, enthusiastic crowds. It will truly be a privilege to call the stars that emerge from there year after year."

The 43-year-old Mirahmadi began his announcing career in 1992 at Hollywood Park. He currently announces for the Northern California fair circuit and has served as a racing analyst on Television Games Network (TVG). The Los Angeles- native appeared in the movie "Seabiscuit" as the Santa Anita track announcer.

Mirahmadi becomes Oaklawn's fourth announcer in the track's 107-year history after an international search.

"It was very gratifying to see so many applicants for the Oaklawn announcer position," said David Longinotti, Assistant General Manager of Racing. "But, Frank really caught our attention for his smooth calls and his ability to generate excitement during a race. He's a very talented announcer and I think our patrons are really going to like his style."

Oaklawn Park begins its 2012 season on Friday, January 13.
