Breen horses to go on separate trails

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Oceanport, NJ (Sports Network) - Trainer Kelly Breen's two runners from the Haskell Invitational are headed in different directions for their next start. Owned by George and Lori Hall, Ruler On Ice and Pants On Fire were third and fifth, respectively, in the Monmouth Park race.

"They came back perfect," Breen said. "They're both doing just fine."

For their next start Ruler On Ice, the Belmont Stakes champ, will travel north while Louisiana Derby winner Pants On Fire is headed south.

"The Travers (August 27 at Saratoga) will likely be the next start for Ruler On Ice," Breen said. "We'll look at the Smarty Jones (September 5 at Parx) for Pants On Fire. That's the prep for the Pennsylvania Derby (September 24). Nothing is set in stone, but George (Hall) and I will talk it over and make a decision from there."

The Travers, at 1 1/4-miles, is also likely to have Haskell winner Coil and runner-up Shackleford.

"The Travers is a strong possibility if I like what I see these next couple of weeks," trainer Bob Baffert said Monday about Coil. "That distance should not be a problem for him with his new running style."
